Municipiul Galati este situat in zona estica a Romaniei, in extremitatea sudica a platoului Moldovei, la 45 27\'\' latitudine nordica si 28o 02\'\' longitudine estica. Situat pe malul stang al Dunarii, ocupa o suprafata de 241,5 km2, la confluenta raurilor Siret (la vest) si Prut (la est), langa Lacul Brates, cel mai mare ochi de apa din aceasta parte a tarii.
